Most tarot sites assume you have no cards. You click, a card is drawn for you, you read the answer. But a lot of you do have cards: a deck you love, worn at the corners, shuffled on your own table. You lay a spread, you look at it, and then, if you are honest, you are alone with a handful of images and a question you cannot quite settle.
That moment is what Your Own Deck is for. You lay the spread yourself. You type in what fell. And the site reads it back to you, one position at a time, the way a teacher would sit beside you and talk it through.
How it works
You start with the question you asked the cards. Then you choose the shape you laid, and enter each card as it fell, in the order you dealt them. Search by name the way you would say it: "two of cups", "the Empress", "swords". Say whether it landed in the light or in shadow, which is how we say it fell reversed, and the next position opens.
The first part is free, for everyone
Anyone can lay the three-card spread here and see what the board shows without a single crystal: your cards on a board in their positions, how that spread is traditionally read, the patterns across what fell (how many Major Arcana, which suit leads, which is missing, whether a number repeats, how many came in shadow), and the elemental balance of the whole spread. Every card links to its page in the Card Library, so a card you have not met before is one tap from its full meaning.
None of that asks a model anything. It is counted from the cards you typed, and it is worth having even if you read the spread perfectly well yourself, because the pattern across the cards is the part that is easiest to miss.
The written reading, and a coach
Every spread can be laid here (the three-card, the Celtic Cross, Your Crush, Relationship, the Birthday spread and the Compass), and every one can be written up:
- Each card, one by one. What it means in the position you laid it, with the image or the idea that makes the meaning, and one thing to notice or do.
- The cards together. How they speak to each other, and an answer to your question, framed as where the cards lean and never as a certainty. For the Birthday and Compass spreads, which are laid without a question, it says what the spread is telling you.
- A coach to ask. Three questions about your spread, kept with it for good. The coach answers from the cards already on the table. No new draw, no prediction, and a gentle no to anything that needs a doctor, a lawyer or an accountant.
- The reader you choose. Elara, Mara, Selene or Leo, the same four voices you know from the readings. Choose before you unlock, and the whole reading, coach included, keeps one voice.
If you own the Tarot Course, your first reading is free, on any spread. Every other reading is paid for with crystals, like everything else here. For the Celtic Cross, Your Crush and Relationship spreads, what each position means is part of the course; it comes with your written reading, or with the course itself. The page says exactly what it costs before you unlock anything, and if a reading cannot be written, you can try again as often as you need and you will not be charged for it.
Kept for you, and kept separate
Every reading you unlock is kept in your account, on your own deck readings page, which you reach from Your Own Deck and from your journal. Open one again whenever you like: it comes back exactly as it was, coach and all, with nothing to pay and nothing to wait for. A small summary builds up with them: how many you have kept, how many of the seventy-eight cards you have met, which cards keep returning to your table.
They live apart from your journal on purpose. The cards in your journal are the ones that came up for you. These are cards you laid from your own deck, practice and reflection, so they are never counted in the journal and your readers never remember them. Delete one and it is gone, with its coach questions.
For practice and reflection
This is not a fortune teller, and it will not tell you what will happen. It is a patient second reader for a spread you have already laid: someone to say what the position asks of the card, to point out the pattern you stepped past, and to leave you with a question to carry. If a reading ever sounds more certain than the cards allow, trust the cards.
Your Own Deck is available in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish and German. Lay your first spread, or find it any time under Learn.
